new custom stainless grill for my small arrived

RRP
RRP Posts: 26,451
Thanks to the input from @Hotch I sought out Michael's Custom down in Siloam Springs, AR to make me a replacement grill. It is made with 1/4" rod and weighs in at 3 pound 3.5 oz so being only 13" in diameter that means it is solid!!! This is truly a lifetime purchase...notwithstanding my placement on the conveyor belt of life anyway!  =)

I've got them building me a searing grate for my shirley. I warped the snot out of the one made from expanded steel. I bet this will last a lot longer in the extreme heat.

I really want one of those grids for my small. Was it a big price difference between the 1/4" and 3/8"?

Well a 1/4" rod with 1/2" spacing like I bought was $50 + postage, but a 1/4" with 1/4" spacing is $60. I believe @Hotch got a discount on the 3/8" rod since he bought 4 of them but just the same the price was clearly more. For whatever it's worth this thing is built like a tank and I know I'll be quite satisfied with the 1/4" rod with 1/2" spacing!

He seems like a good guy. Stands behind his product, and I'll too be using him for my offset build.

BTW - the reason I went this route was this round cast iron grill that I cut out of a rectangular piece about 13 years ago broke in half a couple years ago. While it never rusted I just got tired of dealing with 2 pieces. I'm happy with my stainless steel replacement from Michael!

Ron what would the advantage of 1/4 inch spacing be?   Do you think it would be over kill

Personally I do think overkill is the correct answer, but, hey that's just my opinion and once you get to $50 then what's another $10? LOL

1/4" spacing will give you more pretty grill marks, and cost you more money.
Only advantage would come into play if you cook smaller pieces of food. 1/4" spacing will also decrease airflow.

@Photo Egg  Brother you have it covered. Rutland gasket, SS cooking grid on steroids, a big ribeye, all on the mighty mini. You got to love it brother. Now I want one for my mini. The grid and the ribeye =)

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

Excellent Grid.  I've had one for 3+ years for my Medium Egg (also have the fire grate).

So you re-purposed it from a failed unit? Good for you!

WOW - so that insert is sold separately - that seems weird that the LYNX could get hot enough to damage SS so replacements were needed.

Probably sell due to someone loosing inserts rather than wearing it out.
