Retrospective - the MM egg was so worth buying

So we're two months in from buying the MM to go with our large BGE.

Conclusion: it was such a good decision to get the MM. It uses about 20% of the lump of the large, heats up quicker and keeps it's heat for longer. I did a quick calculation and determined that on the lump reduction alone it would pay for itself in about three years. And no, my wife didn't need that equation presenting to her, she was good to buy it from the get-go :).

The only thing I wish I had known up front is that the mothership changed the design of the MM ... we got the old design, even though it was purchased in late Mar this year. But ... hindsight is a wonderful thing. So to people in the UK, insist on a new MM model if you're getting one.

And on the subject of hindsight, do I regret buying the large egg? Absolutely not. The MM is great but it can't make a 14 inch pizza (anything smaller than that is just not worth it, even for two people, imho :D). Also when we have guests over, I can cook the veggies in the MM whilst my wife flames the rib-eyes on the large.

So thanks for the advice folks. Last night's cook, using both eggs:

Roasting veggies on the MM ...

.. whilst flaming rib-eyes on the large ...

... and dinner is served!

I must agree. We have an XL and a MM, and as our children grow older, and spend more time away from our home, My Beautiful Wife and I cook on the MM, daily, since we cook for two.
Adding to that, the relative portability of the MM, it is great to take to parties, camping and tailgating.
It has become legendary to our neighbors, and we love it.

I have only had my Minimax about a week and love it. I found a big piece of lump and set it in some barely lit coals after a cook just to keep the egg burning while we roasted marshmellows over the fire. A few minutes later and it was at about 1000°F. I didnt realized the temp gauge had looped and my arm hair got singed from the fire from not burping. Biggest flames, bigger then when i had my large. Steaks were great, also baked potatoes directly and indirectly. Pizzas like said above may be too small due to grate size and having to get a smaller pizza stone. Its heavier then i thought it would be though, only complaint i guess.

Nice looking cook there!  And yes, the MM pairs well with a LBGE.  It's just the two of us at home now and usage is split about 50/50 between the two Eggs.  Love them both!

We have the same setup and it works very well for us also.  I do like the XL setup with the lump reducer wich allows two areas to cook, if I had to start over I probably would have gone that rout, it may have come out to the same cost.

Your meal looks great, nice use of both eggs there.

I picked up a MM last weekend from an eggfest demo sale to go along with my Large. Hoping to have the same results/enjoyment. Hopefully firing it up this weekend for its maiden voyage!

How about a picture and some verbiage of the nest under your large?  And BBQing in bare feet?  Hmmm.

The base of the large is the mahogany base we bought with the egg from the UK franchise owner:

As for bare foot cooking, that's my wife's decision of fashion over the safety.  :)
