Thanks, TRex. Dead Guy Sauce is AWESOME on pork!!

This recipe has been out there for several years and I kept meaning to make some. Finally did it today. Wish I had before as it's delicious on a pork bbq sandwich. A contest winner on Food52. Justifiably so!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Looks interesting enough to try. Wonder which "dead guy" if was named for?

Ah,  disappointed.  Thought you had a sauce made with Rogue Dead Guy Ale, from a great little brewery out on the left coast.   Suppose one could always down a few while cooking up this sauce.  Looks quite tasty otherwise.

Carolina Q, If you like vinegar based sauce on your pork, Google Fat Johnnies Bastardized Piedmont Sauce. I find that it is awesome on a pulled pork sammie.

Bob, he doesn't explain where the name comes from. Just that it's a long story. :)

Tom, sorry to disappoint. I don't think I've ever put beer in any recipe. And it would take me far longer than 30 minutes to "down a few". More like 30 DAYS! Or more.

Mike, thanks for the Fat Johnnys tip. Dunno about putting SBR in it though.

  • Just made it for pulled pork tonight. It's really good once reduced. Very balanced. Can't wait to try it in an hour or so. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome, glad you liked it. Wish I had tried it 4-5 years ago when TRex first told everyone about it. I still like my eastern nc sauce too though; just vinegars and spices. And no cooking.

  • Wow!!!! Love this stuff. I actually added 3 tbs butter to cut the vinegar just a little. This is my new go-to for pork and probably everything else. Awesome flavor and perfect for pork for sure.
