Inaugural Cook on the Mini Max (Pic heavy)

Options
I picked up the Mini Max today at 3:00 put it together and had it lit with some Ozark Oak by 6:00 put on a Spatchcock Chicken rubbed with Tsunami Spin direct @400 by 6:30. At 7:30 the white meat was at 158 and dark at 185, I pulled and wrapped the chicken in foil and grilled some asparagus seasoned with EVOO, sesame seeds and Himalayan Salt for 10 minutes. Everything was Eggcellent. The Mini Max fired up and was at temp just like my other egg. I am looking forward to taking this with me to grill/smoke when I am away from home. With the carrier it will be easy to transport. It was worth the wait.

Is there anything to stop the grid from sliding off?

Nice cook, and I'm looking forward to seeing more cooks on the minimax. Keep us posted.

The grid slides a little but doesn't go past the felt. The grid is actually a little below the felt line.

What are your overall thoughts on the mini max? Satisfied with its performance? Any quirks?

I keep thinking $700 with the PS and all ...seems like all but the mini and stand alone were about $500

So looking at it like that its not bad.

Looks like you don't need accessories, grid looks high enough, PS covers I directs. What's missing?

I was satisfied, of course I just did an indirect cook. I guess the true test would be a low and slow, I had it up to temp in 15 minutes with some ozark oak and the cook went well, it took about an hour just like on the large.

And (bet you see right) hopefully be able to hold a stone for indirect.

Yes. But I have aMini with all the toys. I want to find out if Tom will have a Woo ready and if it will have a stone for indirect and pizza. Problem is with my Carten it is portable as can be. What is the weight differences?

The more I see it the more tempted I get. Now running the numbers if I sold the mini and the toys what would I be looking at.

Meant the mini and accessories. The hit $ would be big though used eggs don't go for a great deal especially a mini.
I would only sell because a mini and mini max would be.too similar to keep imo.

I was playing around with raised setups last night. The small woo fits and the dome will close but taking out the fire ring and using the woo on the fire box seemed like the best option for the small woo. The KJ junior heat deflector with the KJ cooking grate is perfect though. The legs fit into the fire ring notches and the KJ grate is actually about a half inch bigger so it fits the egg better even. I am gonna call KJ today and see if they sell their deflector and grate individually. I will upload pics later with woo and deflector options.
