Tandori Pot Mod Question

Anyone know where I have get a pot like used in this mod: http://www.greeneggers.com/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&func=view&id=721499&catid=1

I don't think the pots found at the box stores would hold up to the heat. Any suggestions?

TIA

I had it custom made at a local pottery shop.  May have another one around--been 4 years.  Regarding the comment about being able to rotate the meat, it is not necessary as the heat come from all sides to the skewers.  Comtact me at woodmonkey at cfl dot rr dot com If you wish to discuss this more.

Yep check out the link from @Aviator. At Lowes, some of the pots are made in Italy and are better quality. The first pot in my tandoor lasted 5 years, until I filled the whole thing with wood and lit it (I know - bad idea).

Oh and the benefit of cooking the meats vertically is that you don't have to rotate the skewers.

@Richard Fl I sent you an email.

@Aviator where did you get your skewers? I don't have a Lowes but Homedepot has a few that look like that -- are they specially marked or anything or are they just the standard clay pots? Back before I had an egg I made a Alton Brown Smoker using large pots -- was good... until I bought an BGE

@1310monster  what's cheap? I only found ones that there were several hundred ($750+) ...

    Thanks all

@BigGreenBBQ: Here is where I bought my skewers several years ago: http://www.nishienterprise.com/SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=2&search=tandoor&show=16&page=2

I have no affiliation with them. Mine were $2 each but were carbon steel. The ss ones look much nicer and should not be prone to rust like the ones I have.

If you can find a tandoor on CL, that would be awesome. I don't know how easy it would be to find a charcoal one, since most restos seem to get gas ones. I built one out of an oil drum for about $200. Works great.

@BigGreenBBQ: sorry to send you to another forum, but you'll find details of the build at

Pics are on page 5 of that thread, but the build is described in the first couple of pages. I broke my tandoor last year, so the fix is:

Let me know if I can help with any questions. I think @Aviator has been working on BGE tandoor mods, so maybe check in with him too.
