....a thick porterhouse?
My choice - Green Flash double stout black ale or Old Rasputin Russian imperial stout.
When in doubt add more pepper.

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout....or any of their oak aged Yeti's, especially the espresso one.
-
I've seen Great Divide in the store but have yet tried it. On the next beer run list. Thanks MG.When in doubt add more pepper.
-
I would think any style that you see aged in oak would be good with a thick cut steak...the traditional wine pairing would be something rich and oaky like a Cabernet....Stone's Oaked Arrogant Bastard IPA also comes to mind as a good beer/steak pairing.
-
-
Stone also has a smoked porter that is great with beef.
-
Hmmm, any/all?
In my experience, the best beer I ever had w. a steak (don't know if it was Porterhouse) was Maple City Gold from the Backroad Brewery of LaPorte, IN.
A current fave is Troegenator, a double bock.

My vote is the Old Rasputin. It's good

st peter's creamstout was even good with the "rotten" cake
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -

IPA's, not too hoppy (Sierra Nevada or Granville Island are my favorites). IMHO steak, like roast beef, needs something to clean the palate, but not overpower, much like @Mighty_Quinn commented on the use of an Oak aged Cabernet. Allows you to enjoy every mouthful.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
-
I don't drink wine but a good merlot always goes well. Sam Adams is my go to.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN
-
A few that I like with steak are Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan out of Mississippi (limited distribution, I think), Old No. 38 Stout from Northcoast Brewing, Great Lakes Oatmeal Stout and Loose Cannon IPA (Heavy Seas Brewery out of Baltimore?)..
Cincinnati
LBGE, Weber Kettle

Has anybody tried the new Guiness black lager??FelipeMen, easier fed than understood!!

Anything from Flying Dog is good if not just for the label artwork. When in doubt add more pepper.
-
Lazy Magnolia is good. Mississippi? I didn't care for the black stout.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

I have not tried the new Guiness black as I go to a local irish pub and just can't get by not ordering the draft stout.
When in doubt add more pepper. -
I met the Lazy Magnolia couple. I think the wife is the brew master.
I do like some of their beers.

Derblokken Double Black Stout

Guinness Black Lager sucks, sorry
I like some Lazy Magnolia stuff. You can't go wrong with ANYTHING from Founder's or Great Divide (Yeti is a legend).
For steak, I like something with a bigger body, roasty, present hop character, etc.
Sierra Nevada Blindfold would be perfect! (but hard to find, surprisingly we got it from BevMo in a little keg)

Scored. Wife was at the grocery store and took my text. GD Yeti on the way home. When in doubt add more pepper.

Drakonic Imperial Russian stout by Drake's.
Drake’s Drakonic Imperial Stout – 8.75% ABV, 40 IBUS —Our malty beast. Two-row malt, Chocolate malt, roasted barley and dark Crystal malts make up the grist. Columbus hops, added for bittering only, allow the abundance of malt in this beer to shine through. Drakonic is smooth and dense with flavors of licorice, coffee, and chocolate and a slightly dry finish. Enjoy. Available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles. More info:

I do enjoy a Chimay in a fancy glass now and then. As I adjust my ascot (actually a shop rag, but a man can pretend), I feel like the Monopoly guy for a few precious moments.....
