not ideal, but apparently, if you want the actual "tri-tip" cut down here, you have to buy a pre-seasoned one. i rinsed it off and hit it with a little simply marvelous season all and cooked it to 130 internal. it was a bit on the salty side, but it wasn't bad. used the leftovers to make fajitas tonight....
