Ginny & I are headed to Auburn, MA next week to see our daughter, S-I-L and new granddaughter
I want to do a day trip to Gloucester, Rockport area for lobstah...can any locals advise as to a good restaurant or lobster shop to get really good lobster?
I was trending toward Roy Moore but saw a few not so good reviews...this can be eat in or cooked & take home...thanks in advance. :silly:

i think if your just getting a steamed lobster they would all be good, its straight forward cook. even the supermarket will steam them if your looking for takeout, most demoulas market baskets will do it. stike would probably have a better idea, i dont hit resteraunts much, i think the last time was with stike and essex at turners which was very good. i would send you north to woodmans or the clam box in ipswich for clams and a lobster roll or maybe further north to browns across the boarder in nh, browns is really laid back, one of the last to let you bring your own beer  gloucester always seemed hard to get to, almost off the map for some reason. call to anyplace your going, seasonal and odd hours this time of yearfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Thanks for the heads up on hours...trying to keep the trip to 2 hrs one way as I will have my daughter and gbaby...car riding might be an adventure...I may just wait until our visit this summer for NE Fest...they do a lobstah feed there...
-
like fish said, they will all be 'good' to some degree. if you are intent on Gloucester and rockport, then i'd just wander around and poke your nose in to a few joints.
i am guessing you are interested more in the environment and seeing some sights, and so rockport and gloucester are good choices. rockport maybe more so...
i have never had a lobster from a restaurant, so i can't point you to one that is better than the other, sorry. the negative reviews you saw were minimal from what i could tell ( i checked the place you mentioned). the rest seemed very positive.
couple tips, to help you blend in...
for reference, "gloucester" rhymes with "lobstah", and is pronounced "glos-tah".
rockpaht useda be dry, buch-yoo can get likka and beeyah they-ah now. just no packies foh yah ta buy yowah own likka.
please, for the love of god, do not wear the plastic bib. you don't wear one when eating anything else, and lobster is no more messy than ribs. they only make lobster bibs so that we can laugh at the tourists
if it is in the 40s or 50s, wear shorts and a tee-shirt if you want to fit in. if it is in the 30s, a light jacket is ok, but you still should leave it in the car, not actually wear the damn thing. if it's in the 20s or lower you might want to actually put on the jacketed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
woodmans of essex, town is next to goucester. i think they are noted to be the first to fry a clam and they have lobster there. probably rated in the top three fried clam destinations in newengland. you would stand a better chance getting in this place this time of year than you would in the summer. ive eaten in gloucester but its so long ago i dont know whats there nowfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
oh, and do NOT buy a cooked loster to reheat back home. i will openly weep if i hear that. :(ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

never been to browns for a lobster and all the beer you can carry in

I am literally laughing my a*^ off...that is hilarious...all we will have to do is open our mouths and ask "where do ya'll getz ur lostahr in these here parts" and they will know we ain't from around there...and if you have never eaten lobstah in a restauraunt I am not above coming to your house for lobstah dinner...but no crunchy paella please.... :P

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Auburn is near Wooster or Wister isn't it? -
It's Wusstah, and yes, Auburn is nearby. But it's not near Glosstah.

Stike, you're killing me. I moved out 20 years ago (they pronounce
Russia OH "Roo ssy" out here.
Give him Leicester, Leominster, and Sommerville, just in case. -
For live lobsters, I usually just head to the docks and hit one of the fish/lobster houses. Fresh off the boat and they will sell to you right out of the tanks. I looked at Google maps, and the place I usually wind-up going to is called Capt Joe and Sons. The lobsters will survive the car ride back to Auburn if you want to cook them yourself.
-
I think we will eat some there and buy a few to take home and cook...mmmm lobstah for Thanksgiving...yummy..
-
then there's;
New Bedford = new befa
