saw this yesterday, the average cost of this year's feast for 10 is $43.47. i bought a turkey yesterday, some stuffing mix and some miscellaneous stuff to make sandwiches today and i was almost there  here is what they included and they expected leftovers. turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and beverages of coffee and milk, all in quantities sufficient to serve a family of 10. There is also plenty for leftovers. i guess what i made for my self to eat yesterday was for ten

i've never hosted a thanksgiving, but i think there could be some staggering totals posted. i could easily see a way to spend better than $300 to feed ten if you factored in having multiple meat choices including wild game.

That must be a per person price!!! ;)
  • we generally are a group of 20+ and i make the appetizers.. veggie tray ,, shrimp , brie and pear, mozzerella and red pepper on french bread slices , smoked mussels , another cheese or two. remoulade horesradish mustard and cocktail sauces are purchased as well i probably spend twice that on just the apps.
  • I puchased 2-14 lb turkey's yesterday at Walley World for $0.66/lb so around $9/ea. Potatoes are inexpensive, sweet potatoes, cranberry, stuffing, bread and an apple pie. Seems like the price is reasonable. If you add seafood and other expensive items you could probably spend the $300.

I could see that as a Thanksgiving on the cheap price, but not as an average. We are cooking for 6 this year and it has been as many as 10. The 12 pound turkey that I am smoking this weekend was half of that. The 22 pounder we ordered for the actual turkey day is more than that. Last year when we fed 10 I would guess we spent more like $500, but it was a gourmet recipe-fest. I think I spent $40 on wild mushrooms and rice for the stuffing. This year we will have turkey, corn bread dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, and a couple of desserts. I cant possibly imagine a location where that could all be purchased for $44.

we feed 16-20 every year, we start looking for sales and buying cheap from mid oct., and probably spend 30-40 dollars on turkey day stuff every trip. $90,00 for 20 would be nice, but not happening here!

I don't really keep up with it, but I'm guessing it's considerably above average - if average if $43.47. I'll spend at least $20 - $25 on the turkey. And we usually have a small ham as well....we like leftovers :)

26 bucks for the turkey - 3.50 for 10lbs pototos - creamed corn(made this fall from sweet corn) 5 bucks, 12 bucks, bread/rolls 5 bucks, gravy supplies (cheap), 10 bucks pumpkin dessert with the whipped cream, 5 bucks for squash - coffee (cheap) and we all drink water. so the total for us is 66.50, round up to 80 for good measure! Sorry this post was supposed to go under fishlessman

I spend that much on the ham.....add in the turkey and we are way over, even at less than .99lb...

And if you don't want stuffing from a box....or want to cook some fresh veggies....

you know it is close to T-Day since I saw some blue hubbard squash in the grocery store....
