I have wanted to try a coffee rub but the hubby doesn't do coffee. He doesn't even like the smell. So my question is does it taste or smell like coffee. I know that sounds dumb but I have use other thing in food that don't retain there flavor when cooked or mixed with other things. Thanks for all of your help

IMHO the coffee flavor and caffeine stays with the food. Here is a recipe that some like and a few have made it with decaff, but the flavor is still there, not like some alcohol mixes that burn.

I use Dizzy Pig's "Red Eye Express"; it doesn't taste/smell just like coffee, just a "familiar" taste when used and cooked. There are some recipes too if you want to assemble your own.

Before I even knew about the BGE, I made the Millionaire Brisket on a horizontal barrel smoker. I didn't think the brisket tasted like coffee at all. The recipe can be found here on Steven Raichlen's site:

Also, my BGE dealer, Herman's Boy, sells their own coffee seasonings called Java Jolt seasonings. They are a roastery, confectionary, and an outdoor cooking store located in Rockford MI. I don't see a way to order their Java Jolt seasongins online, but their website can be found here. They may be able to ship you some. They use the coffee they roast to help make 3 or 4 different seasongings. They make one for steaks and burgers, one for fish, one for pultry, etc. So far I have only tried the steaks and burgers seasong. It is very good and I can't taste the coffee.
