There are a lot of "instant read" thermometers in this price range which settle on a reading in 20-30 seconds ........ a LONG time if you have your hand over glowing lump in your Egg. Thermapens settle on the final temperature in less than 5 seconds.

I use ONLY cheap electronic thermometers...I had thisnone and it works in 2-4 seconds...pretty close vs the $70-80 options...my two cents. It was lost in the move, thanks foe the reminder, I'll order another one.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered one. If you search the web, you can find a coupon code for 20% off, which knocks about $3 off the price.

I just can't rationalize spending ~$100 for a thermometer. 2-4 seconds or so is perfectly fine for ordinary use, IMO. I've been using an old analog type thermometer for years, and that response time is much slower, and I've managed just fine with it.
