First Wings - Yum

I tried wings for the first time last night. I thought it would be fun to have wings at Thanksgiving for everyone to munch on while we are waiting for the turkey. So I figured I better learn how to cook the wings.
I used my own homemade rub and BBQ sauce
The setup: direct, raised, dome at 350, 20+ minutes baste, turn, 20+ minutes baste, turn. removed them and placed in a large bowl with BBQ sauce, stirred placed back on the BGE 5+ minutes on each side, removed and tented.

beautiful view ya got there, MountainGriller :woohoo: what mountain range has captured you?
now that you see how easy-peasy wings are, you will have fun with different flavors and techniques, too == just to mix things up a bit :silly:
do you have access to turkey wings? that might be fun
are you gonna do your turkey on the BGE this year? lots of ways to do a whole one, too.
happy Egging

Great looking wings and a gorgeous view. Perfect combination in my book! Out of curiosity, did the skin crisp up? My wings are delicious taste wise but I don't know the secret to crispy skin.

You nailed the wings

What a view you got.....
You might want to try spatchcocked turkey this year. Direct & high in dome - very good..Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd. -
I'm in western NC overlooking TN and VA
Turkey wings? sounds good
Yes, the turkey will be on the grill - I'm excited -
I had read of ways to make the skin turn out crispy but I was in a hurry and didn't try anything special.
The skin on mine was nice but not crispy. -
secret to crispy skin
time and temp, Grasshopper
also wait until the end to sauce then put them back on for a very short time just like Mountaingriller did
-
I've tried spatchcocked chicken but never tried a turkey that way - sounds great!! Thanks

spatchcocked turkey with lime juice and oregano is a longtime favorite at The Desert Oasis

Good, thanks for the positive feedback and for the crispy skin tip.

That lime juice & oregano, sounds delicious! May try that on a breast this weekend.
Mountain Griller, your view is unbelievable. And the wings aren't bad either. -
Thanks - we enjoy the view

Great cook. We love wings on the BGE.
Try cooking them on the standard 18" grid placed on "top" of your adj rig. The extra distance will decrease hot spots a little more and you will get more heat from the dome to cook the wings from the top as well. This will also help get the skin crisp.
Great deck and view...Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Great wings and an awesome view thanks...It's been a while since I've made wings...you've motivated me.

Thanks, what a great tip - I'll try that - I was pleased but there is always room for improvement
-
Thanks, I had a good time - it was a fun project - hope you will make a batch soon
