Shot Gun Fred at the BBQ Guru has a device to make homemade lump real easy. I seen it in action at the Jack Daniels BBQ comp this weekend
  • do you have a link to his device? what kind of wood did he use?

Capstone: My husband has made lump very easily right in the egg. It will take me some time to find his post, as I am just taking a brief break from a project, but I will find it for you. It was truly no effort at all! (Though our neighbors did think our house was on fire! )
  • please do little chef it will be greatly appreciated

Capstone: Actually, you can help...lol! It was posted in this forum by Bubba Tim...home made lump. I have started looking, but there are over 1400 hits in the search, and for the life of me, I can't remember the handle of the person that asked the question. So unfortunately, with this search engine, it's kind of a hunt for a needle in a haystack. I do know it was posted by Bubba Tim approx 2 months ago.
I'm pretty sure he just lights the wood, and lets it burn like a sob with the lid down and vents wide open, then when the smoke stops, he shuts the egg down completely, and harvests the lump the next day. I would like to find his post though to confirm that. ;)

Capstone: Here is the post from Bubba Tim...and yes, it took a lot of searching. But, you can also read the rest of the thread this post is attached to, a lot of good info, but we like the simple method of making the lump right in our egg! And yes, it works!

As a side note, we also do a couple clean burns a year. Meaning, full load of lump, open bottom and top ALL the way, and let it rip!!! It burns off the residues and such, and the egg looks like new when done, so residue is not a concern here. But, you need a high temp gasket.
Same will happen here. High temp gasket, or none. Felt will be burned to a crisp.
Wish you the best, and happy eggin!! Visit more often, and you will learn a TON here!! ;)
