Whole chicken time!!

Going to make a whole chicken. I normally coat in a little olive oil, spice the outside and inside, and cook over direct on a little chicken holder until about 190 internal temp, makes skin pretty crispy.
I am thinking of trying it indirect tonight and was wondering if it would still get that nice crispy skin texture to it this way. What are some of the way that others are here like to prepare and cook theirs? Thanks.

Will the "LCH" fit it the Egg?

I would try doing it same as in the oven, except maybe a little higher temp. -
Direct using the Adjustable Rig. Seasoned as you stated.
400°
500°
Chicken with a tub of veggies underneath.
350°

350° raised grid indirect

They all come out great.

Steelers252006,
I would consider inverting it on the holder. I've had great results on several occasions.

done chickens both direct and indirect, i prefer to do them indirect, i dont eat the skin so a crispy skin isnt a goal of mine, i really like doing them spatchcocked. they are really juicy! Indirect at 375.

I don't recall doing one direct - these were all indirect. If you go indirect, you may want to try a tray of mixed veggies in a pan supported off the platesetter - they come out good.
I haven't tried LS's inverted chicken but the reasoning sounds right (Pat it was difficult but I said it
) The last pic supports the inverted method.

375 - 400 dome

sounds good, thats what i do, but yours look mighty fine!

The sugar cane smoke gives it a nice color as well as taste. I haven't tried it, but I bet cherry would be nice for smoke.
