We just bought our green egg about a month ago and I'm having trouble trying to figure out how long you cook things on it. The manual that came with it is not very helpful... We cooked the drunken chicken last night because everyone told us it was awesome. Well, I was disappointed. It just taste like regular chicken to me. Am I missing something? We did it just like the directions and it was bland to say the least. Is there a cookbook out there for us new folks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi, Suzie - welcome to the forum! You should repost this question on the main egghead forum and you will get the help and suggestions you need. Forum Feedback is more for problems with the forum, password issues, that sort of thing. Not many folks hang out here. I look only occasionally.

When you post there, give as many details about how you cooked as possible. Temp, direct or indirect, raised grid or normal, smoke wood used (if any), etc. If, by drunken chicken, you mean beer can (whole chicken, upright, beer can in the cavity), I tried that only once and was disappointed too. Spatchcocked (butterflied) is my preferred method for a whole chicken. Just cut out the backbone and open it up flat on the grid, skin side up. 400° or so, raised grid (to gasket level), direct heat (others may disagree with the direct part :)).

The egg does require some practice (at least it did for me), but once you start to figure it out... good eats!!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
