Just scrape it with a food scraper. If it is really messy, you can always heat to 500 degrees or so and burn off any stuff and then scrape when it cools. The Naked Whiz

what the Whiz said - but how bad can it be? I'm right proud of my shiney black stone - it's sort of like well seasoned cast iron - nothing will stick to it!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

As the Whiz said.
Dont use soap and water etc - its gets into the stone and leaves a taste. -
This works great. Put your plate setter or pizza stone in your oven and turn it on clean. White as snow when it is done. This really works! You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

I put the pizza stone and plate setter inside the egg when I do my semi annual hi temp burn. Run the egg up to 900 de. for an hour or so, eveything comes out clean.
Might need a new gasket too. -

I'll repeat myself - my pizza stone is shiny black after years of egging many fine pizzas - I have NEVER cleaned it and it is wonderful - what's with this "back to white" idea? I cherish my black stone just like my well seasoned and pampered cast iron Dutch Ovens!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

You don't clean a pizza stone. Simply scrap off the excess and just wash under running water and dry. Pizza stones are suppose to be black when cooking on.

High Heat will burn everything off. After a messy pizza I just leave the stone on the egg and crank it up (I usually cook pizza at about 550 so it doesn't take much to crank it up.
It is really amazing how high heat will clean...I had a Plate Setter that came out looking new - well at least the side that was fire side down... best of luck.
