OT Ordering parts from Cabelas

Several weeks ago I inadvertently dropped the cutting blade from my meat grinder into the garbage disposal, unfortunately it was running. So I went to Cabelas website to order a new one, it was $13 with $12 dollar shipping. Problem was when I placed the order I got a message they were out of stock and in order for them to bring them in I would have to order two of them. That meant $38 to replace one little blade. I decided to look elsewhere so I got out a magnifying glass and looked at the blade and found a name on it. I googled the name and found the manufacturer of my grinder. I went to the site and ordered the blade for $7 and $3 shipping. It was in my mailbox three days later. The moral to this story is that Cabelas or any other large retailer doesn't manufacture anything even though the product carries their name. So if you have a problem with a private labeled product, a little investigation may get you better service and save some bucks. -RP

Glad they charged you double so that you found the better deal! Good lesson though. As we speak, Cabelas is probley sending you 200 of the new blades.

Is it a Weston grinder? That's who makes their vac sealer.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I just bought the CG-15 food sealer from Cabela's and did a bit of research and found the manufacturer, who was selling it for 50 dollars cheaper. The only difference was that the Cabela's model has a number display. I made the decision to buy because I am fortunate to live 20 minutes from a storefront and like being able to return and buy things from a storefront....plus it gives me an excuse to go to Cabela's when I need new bags!

If you want to save a buck on bags, as an example, qualitymatters.com sells 8x12 Weston brand vac bags for $20. Cabella's price is $30. I bought my Pro-2300 sealer from QM and was pleased with them, and it. Time to order more bags and they have the best price I can find. No tax either (for CT addresses anyway).
