Smoking barley malt....

The BGE is such a versatile tool. Smoking barley malt for homemade scotch whiskey is just another example........... Not that I know anyone that would distill their own scotch whiskey at home. The government frowns on such activity due to their lack of ability to determine how to tax it. But it sure would do a good job of smoking that malt though.... :)

    How about chocolate malt for beer, IIRC it is lightly smoked.

    I just happen to have a still. Of course it's strictly used for essential oils - because anything else would be illegal. I've had the same thought about the barley malt. Touring all the distilleries in Scotland - I always came away with a pocketful of malted barley to chew on. Love that stuff.

    I have smoked several pounds of barley for a buddy of mine who brews. I used a low temp setup with cherry wood for several hours. He made a really tasty porter out of the smoked barley.
