Someone at the egghead fest in MN had some great ones. I think bacon would be good in there but I want to hear from the experts...Tell me your stuff!

Hi - Welcome to the board - I personally always hate to see a newbie ask a simple question and then have nobody respond. Most of us here are willing to help at the drop of the hat, but when you coach your question of "asking the experts" then modesty kicks in and we clam up! Seeing no one has responded let me be so brazen to step forth  First of all while the genteel name is poppers on this board they are more commonly called ABTs. As for the meat INSIDE you mentioned using bacon - that's OK, but seeing most ABTs are wrapped with a piece of bacon then we use something else inside. I usually use an all beef "little smokey", but sometimes use shrimp, pulled pork or even a delicious chili dog sauce inside. Of course any of the above meats - not all of the above! Again - welcome aboard!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

thanks for the info..not a newbie..been in these parts at least 3 years or more. Thanks for the WARM welcome!
edited to add was hoping to find the one the gal made at the MN eggfest...but am open to lovely ideas like yours. I have like 150 peppers on my kitchen table. I may try some with goat instead of cream cheese for variety and maybe even some dates in some..What you think? By the way I posted more before this board was updated and then my posts disappeared. -
darn so now I am hungry...nice slideshow!!! So I am gonna make a few types. I have little coctail weiners and I have some ground bacon ends that I am dying for an excuse to use. I don't see the instructions but it looks like cut in half...add the meat..is one shrimp? and then creme cheese on top and then wrap with bacon and use a toothpick to hold and then cook on the egg..so what is ABT?

please stop hitting the refresh :laugh:Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

yes basically you have the idea - but scrape the seeds and veins out unless you want to burn your mouth! Yes that white thing in the corner was a shrimp my wife wanted once again that night - I think they are too bland for an ABT. As for the cocktail wiener - those are not the same as a "little smokey" which has more taste IMO. Lastly I just assumed you were new calling them poppers and now not knowing what ABT stands for...brace yourself in case it offends you...Atomic Buffalo T*rdsRe-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I like that ABT...it works..k off to make poppers with my 10 and 7 year old..not pushing refresh..pushing them off of my lap..if you come up with any more tips...I think my phone number is still in my profile. I think the smokeys are gross but my kids love them..this ground bacon rocks though!
-
little smokies are gross to you, but cocktail wieners are OK? Not sure that I agree as I know they can puree even the UNMENTIONABLE PARTS that go in to both those products! My suggestion is stick to chopped up pulled pork that you egg yourself! I don't know the difference between the two. I use the words interchangeably. I am not a hotdog person but my kids like them..I will post pics later..
-
where I live the cocktail wienies come in a can and are 1 inch long at most and look like tiny skinless wieners. The little smokies are about the same 1" length, but twisted and tasty. Now - keep in mind I'm the dude who orders GREAT Pearl's Brand frankfurters from the East Coast costing me about $8 a pound! Yup...$8 dollars per pound for HOT DOGS!!! NOW...good night. :P

Are they kinda old fashioned? We only use organic and pastured..grass fed meat...Here are some pictures..
the ground bacon ends..pastured ..to die for. I will mail you a pack frozen if you want to try them $1.69 a pound..crazy!
my cocktail weiners $5.49 for 12 oz
poppers on the grill
my helpers
finished product...We loved them
I appreciate all your help. I am going to make more tomorrow for a gathering here and I will make the presentation much nicer. By the way I did not like the goat cheese...I am addicted otherwise! YUM! Thanks for the seed tip. My eyes and hands and lungs were so on fire!
