Homemade Ash Tool

In an answer to a post I read yesterday, Granpa's Grub mentioned several posts by RRP regarding how to make a homemade ash tool that could be made for about $3. I have been through over 1000 posts by RRP and have not found references to this tool. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Here you go!

The large one cleans my large and med and the small services my small and mini.

The large is nothing more than the ripping edge guide from an old circular saw and that blade is 4" wide. With the dowel handle it's 14" long.

The small is just a piece of strap metal bent 90° and then with a small .75" x 1" rectangle of brass pop-riveted onto it. Works for me! Nothing fancy but cheap!

buy a cheap spatula. an inch from the end bend it 90 degrees back toward to. another inch or so in, bend it 90 again.

i did that for a while, but i also used it to stir the lump, and it just didn't have the mettle... so i got the real ash tool

I made one out of some bridgeing I had in the garage. In case you are unfamiliar bridging is just the pieces of metal framers use to tie floor joists together. I just bent the end and use it to scrape out the old Lump.

Once again, thanks to all for the responses. You are invaluable to newbies like me. So far I have cooked ribs, beer can chicken, butt, praline peaches and a couple of pizzas. Not a bad meal yet. Looking forward to my next meal but I am going to have to buy some lump first.

I took an in expensive towel rod, made one cut by the wall bracket, the other cut just before the bend going to the other bracked. It also works well as a giggle rod.
