Redmono

Just bought my BGE on Monday. Looking to buy a thermometer so I don't have to open the dome to check the meat temp. Any suggestions?? Reasonable price please. LOVE the EGG!! Thanks for the input.

I agree with Tim that the maverick is a good product. Even replaced a couple of thermo probes for free and didn't charge shipping. My only complaint as to the et-73 is the interface is a little confusing and it took me a while to figure out how to program the alarms. Oh, and it's kind of annoying that you have to take the battery cap off to turn it on and off.
I also have a maverick-made remote thermo branded as williams sonoma. no chamber probe but it still is handy for meat temps. -
Thanks a bunch!!!

Redmono, No problem.

I do want to say the unit is not perfect and I have had to replace probes like smoky b has stated. The user should be warned not to immerse the probes in water...do your research and don't blame me if you buy one and hate it and have all kinds of problems with it. We all do! In my opinion it's the best we have going for us at this time. I no longer use the standard probes that are "good for 410 degrees" I use the high heat probes that are good for "570 degrees". Good luck because there are a lot of folks who like it and a lot who hate it. Tim :ermm: -
Anyone know how it compares to the "Stoker"(if, in fact, they're similar in nature)? TIA~~

After burning a few probes on long smokes I picked up a handy thermometer from Thermoworks. For long smokes, it will set you back a C note. There are other devices you can get for quick reads and temps inside the Egg. After 6 months, no problems or buyer's remorse.

If you want it now. go to Lowes and buy one for $15. works just fine for me since March. no problems. settings and alarms for all the popular meats.XL Walled Lake, MI

I use a polder, or maybe its poulder, and it was about $35 off ebay.

Rascal, I have a Maverick ET-73 and it monitors a cook ie it has a meat probe and pit probe with timers and alarms. It has a pit probe but no device to control the pit. It can't make the pit temp go up or down. It sells in excess of $40.
I also have a CyberQ II made by BBQ Guru. it does everything the Maverick ET-73 does and more. I has the capabilities of controlling the pit temp up or down. It sells in excess of $300.
