Stoker question

I cannot get my stoker to work with my computer. I am plugging it directly into my wireless internet router and the light for that port stays orange (instead of green). The router is fine and I tried to monkey with some of the setting on the stoker but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions???
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Have you set the I.P. address at the Stoker box?__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

i thought it did it automatically
-
Nope. You have to set it, and the setting has to be in the range of addresses that your wireless router supports, such as 192.168.1.50__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious
-
how do you know the range that it will support? i am in the router setup menu right now
-
It should be in the documentation some where. I'm on a Mac so I probably can't help you. If you have Linksys, I *think* they set the address as 192.168.1.xx
Maybe someone who knows something will chime in.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
Are you sure about that? When I reviewed the Stoker, I did connect the Stoker to my router, and according to the directions I have in the review, the Stoker pulled the IP address automatically. You simply had to display what address it got on the Stoker, then you could type that into your browser. Has this changed?
Edit: I just checked the documentation on the Stoker website, and it also says that the Stoker will automatically obtain an IP address. The Naked Whiz -
Oops. Sorry if I was wrong. I had set mine through the switches.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

The router will assign a IP address to the Stoker.
If you nave manually entered an IP address into the Stoker we need to talk more. Otherwise...
Turn off the stoker. Then turn the Stoker back on. On the stoker you need to go to the system menu then to IP address. Write the number down it will be something like what VI said above.
Then in a browser type in the number xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and you will see the Stoker menu on the browser.

I believe one can set the IP address in the Stoker if that IP address never changes - that is router specific.
I have wireless devices that use the Router and depending on what is running the router assigns a different address.
If one assigns a IP address in the Stoker and the IP address changes, then there is a procedure to go through on the Stoker to release the 'typed in' IP address and allow it to go back to automatic assignment.
In normal operation it is as you described.

just got off the phone with John @ Rocks. I had to set the first 3 numbers of my ip address to 255 and save it. Then powered off stoker and restarted. It then grabbed the proper address from the wireless router. I had 192 as my first 3 numbers and it was wrong (50/50 chance of getting it right as they can only be 10 or 192). Now Im going to try to use amirs program...stand by for more questions....lol, Thanks everybody!!
-
Interesting... At first I entered in the IP address in the stoker and could never get things going. Then I followed the reset procedure listed in the manual. The next power on the Stoker go the IP address without any problems. It was all very simple.
Amir's program works well.

what you did by entering 255.255.255 was telling the stoker to acquire an ip address from the router (dynamic address, or DHCP). it must have previously been set up with a static ip address.
in any case, you're off to the races!
once in a while, i find that when i turn my stoker on, it doesn't properly acquire an ip address, or i'm not able to access it from my browser. i cycle the stoker power on and off a time or two and all is well.

All kinds, but shouldn't this be a separate topic? :P
