Hi im thinking on buying and BGE large o XL, wich one you recomend also wich accesories do you think are the best to buy, tks.

Why XL? Many of us find more versatility in a large plus medium. Something to consider.

If the price of a XL doesn't scare ye, then get a LG/SM combo and you'll be set for a good year. :P Then you'll be thinking about a mini.

If you do a lot of entertaining that requires grilling space, the XL is the way to go. Other than that, go Large then add a small or medium down the road for those bigger gatherings.

I have two large eggs and a heck of a lot of eggcessories. Come on in the water is fine. BTW you already did the right thing by joining this forum. This forum is worth way more than cooking lessons.
You will see soon enough but, hurry cause after you get an egg you'll wonder why you waited so long.

I would rec. a large to start......
(after 15 months with the large..I just added a small to the family - its a great addition for sides or smaller cooks) -
If you do as much grilling as low & slow cooks, go XL. I just bought an XL about a month ago and love the extra space. I'm so glad I chose the XL over the large. The only eggcessory I've purchased so far is the plate setter (which is mandatory equiptment, no idea why it doesn't come with egg, stock). There was a lot of talk about how much more lump the XL would use over the large - not an issue at all! I use a "lump reducer" from my WSM smoker (same size as the ceramicgrillstore.com sells) and I use hardly any charcoal, it's unreal how little lump I use on a 12 hour cook. I asked this same question to this forum and got mostly "get the large" answers, but in the end I'm glad I made the decision I did.Packerland, Wisconsin

ok, so most of you guys think i should go with the large, and very rarely ill entertain more than 15 people, so what about the accesories?

I started with the Large, and then bought the rest smaller than the Large. While I think the Large/Small thing is good, I would tell you to get an XL, and then later get a smaller size to go with it (Medium is my fav egg). I wish I would have bought the XL. It is the one I was looking at, and then a Large deal showed up on Craigslist, and I grabbed it. If I was to do it again, I would buy the XL, then Medium, and Mini.
But whatever you get, you will love, and then you will buy more. Good luck. -
I bought a large and wish I would have spent a few more on a XL. Even cooking for 4 I often run out of space on the large. Sure you can cook using grill extenders and others cooking on different levels but all that is a Pain in the @. I rather have more space on one level to get the job done. If the price is not an issue go for the XL and you will never look back. Get a lump reducer and you can still cook for two easily. If you find someone who wants to trade a large for an XL contact me :laugh:

I bought a large about a year ago and it accomplishes what I need it to. Maybe down the road I'll want to buy another, but I'm fine for now.
As far as accessories, I cannot live without my plate setter(for indirect heating and smoking),my pizza stone (for, uh, pizza and one of the main reasons I bought a BGE) and my cast iron grill (for perfect searing). -

I went with an XL for my first and am thankful I did. I was between the XL and L and my wife convinced me to go for the XL as we do have those unexpected gatherings every so often. That said, I also now have a medium for parallel cooking or side dishes when doing Lo/Slo's. No matter what you buy, you will become addicted, you will spend money on eggcessories and you will start thinking of your next egg. As I said,m I just got the Med and I am already thinking about a small or mini for camping or when I am without the family around and want a burger or steak just for me. I have 7 eggs and have been egging for 7 years
I have cooked for up to 60 on one lg and two med with out breaking a sweat. I do not have a xL and have not yet had a time that I was sorry about that. a LG with the adj rig will hold a ton of food (pain to set up?? no way you just set it in the egg). I was impressed at the troop cook last weekend when we had 10 butts on the xl and could have added a few more with an extender. but do I need an XL to cook 10 butts? nope I have my two lgs LOL a large and med or sm, adj rig for the lg and pizza stone for both and woo for the med. you can do anything. have plate setters for all my eggs but the mini's and they hardly get used anymore. not bashing the xl in any way and have cooked on them a couple of times and they are cool. but I rather have the diff temps and set up for cooking all different things at the same time. you will find that most have two eggs just for that reason. the forum is your very best bet for info and glad you joined to get help. we all have different opinions LOL and this is mine :P -
I know you asked about Eggcessories, but I want to throw in one more plug for a Large. Everyone loves their Egg and thinks THEY got the perfect size. Above and below 15 is a good rule of thumb. My neighbor had an XL and no matter what he cooked, he never needed more than a Large. In fact I cook more on my Large than he ever did and he went through a lot more lump.
Accessories I use on every cook:
Table or Nest for the Egg - Just my preference. folks have been cooking longer than me with the Eggs just settin on the 3 feet on their patio.
Ash tool
grid lifter (I use pliers)
Thermapen (Pricey but absolutely worth it!)
Fire starter (Some people use the BGE square blocks, some use the Alcohol method, some use a MAPP torch, some use electric, some use others- I use the paper towel and vegetable oil method.
Tongs- Long for high heat steak cooks, removing hot roasts and chickens, etc. regular, indoor length for other stuff.
Accessories I use a lot:
Platesetter -for indirect cooks like lo and slo's as well as roasts, breads, pies, etc.
Raised Grid - for cooking whole chickens or parts or anything marinated that could drip flammable liquid or fat onto the coals. I made my own with a replacement grid and 3 carriage bolts. Can also cook on two levels at once.
Welders Gloves - Cost about $15. used for working over high heat cooks, opening the dome when there's a chance of flashback, removing hot raised grids and/or platesetters, etc.
Accessories I use less often but still need:
Pizza Stone- for cooking Pizzas or baking pies, breads, etc. recommend BGE stone. Pricey but built to last.
Remote Thermometer -For Overnight cooks and Roasts. I use Maverick ET-73. Lots of folks use Polder.
Rib Rack - my preference. Plenty of folks cook ribs flat on the grid.
Spider - for holding a Wok or a small grid close to the coals for searing steaks. -
Go large:
I would tell you to not get the platesetter and go to the adj rig with spyder and get pizza stone.
Have both setter and rig - use the setter less than 10%.
If doing over would put the setter money into outher stuff.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.
