Cast Iron Grate Care

How do you guys care for your CI grates?

I clean mine with a wire brush, preferably when it's hot after a cook. After a few uses the CI grate will be seasoned and should never be washed in soapy water. I usually wipe mine down with a wet rag after the Egg is up to cooking temperature to remove any residue.
Right or wrong, it works for me.Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

That is pretty much what I do as well, nothing spacial.

Cook on it a lot and keep it greasey.
It's all I use.

Wish I had the same problem. I can't buy one here in Italy. I am considering having one made. Andy

I keep feeding it food.

I store mine in the egg. Even if I am not using it, when I am finished cooking I remove whatever setup i cooked on and put the CI and the Daisy Wheel top in the still hot egg and close her down. Never have a problem

I don't. Well, if there are too many large chunks of butt stuck to it, I might scrape them off before I put the chicken on. Other than that, nuthin'.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

That's easy to do - just find a rectangular cast iron grate and cut one out!

Thanks I will try and find one. Andy
