Central Market / Hatch Chili Time
Mickey
Posts: 19,768
If you are lucky enough to live around a Central Market (HEB Flagship store / Texas) this time of year for Hatch Chili time you need to go in.
We picked up from the meat counter some mid-hatch burgers to cook Sunday.
The very best hamburger I have ever had.....

Thanks Mickey.
I picked up some roasted Hatch chiles from CM yesterday.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
Mickey, I could have sworn they had mild, medium and hot Hatch peppers last year. Only mild and hot this year. Am I mistaken?
-
Same, here in Houston, Steve. Mild and hot.
I got mild. I didn't know what "hot" was until I went to New Mexico years ago. :laugh:__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
You're spoiled down there Mickey.
I'm going to call my local grocer and see if they can order some. I'd like to put up my own rather than go through the mail order. -
Same in Austin, but they had the mild/med/hot permixed for the half lb patties. I think the hot was just with cheese.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Rebecca this place for 2 weeks puts the hatch in everything made. VERY GOOD STUFF.
Spoiled would be correct as we have this store and the home store for WholeFoods in Austin. We drive the 45 miles one way just to use the two stores.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). I got the roasted turkey with Hatch peppers . Oh, my! Sliced for sandwiches. Mmmmm :P I'll be buying my roasted peppers this weekend, putting them in baggies and freezing them to last until next year. Yep, they're that good!
It's fun to go to Central Market when the roasters are going in the parking lot. The smell! Ahhh :P -
Mickey, I used to buy Hatch chilis in Denver on the roadside on Federal Blvd. They roasted them by the bushel. My car would eminate roasted chili aroma for over two weeks after picking up several bushels. Friends would come over and we would peel and seed the chilis, then divy them up to be frozen. It was fun. I really miss that late summer ritual.

C'mon down, Eenie! We'll stuff your car..and you!..with them :cheer: This thread is making me want to go to Central Market. I think I will!

Steve, thanks for the invite!

I was in line with a lady from NM near Hatch Saturday at CM. She said they do not have a third as many items made with the hatches as CM has for sale.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). They can even be had in a can.
-
Mike, do they really taste the same from a can?
-
No, eenie, they don't. But they are pretty darn close! I buy them whenever I run out of frozen ones. Every year, I vow that I'll buy enough to last, but :(
-
Oh I miss Austin.
We'd get several bags and freeze them. Couldn't stretch them out very long. Everything is better with Hatch!
