While I can get 650 plus. I can never reach 700-750 degrees .. Why??????
I use good lump and plenty of it, lighting it in multiple spots.

FF/Medic Egghead,
Maybe your thermometer? You can't have much ash buildup in the egg to get real high. You can use a fan in front of the lower vent if you need to. Careful where the embers land.

I have the same problem, the first couple attempts were okay though. I completely cleaned out the EGG yesterday before firing it up for pizzas, but I could only reach about 600-650 with everything wide open.

Just curious, what do you need that extra 100.*F for?

Lack of air flow through the lower vent under the fire grate and up through the lump bed.
On a large, if you have enough lump and have lit in several places as well as lit a little down into the lump bed you should be able to reach any temperature you would like.
Use a wiggle rod if needed.

You can sear on these ceramic cookers at much lower temps by finding ways to get closer to the fire as they are such efficient cookers and will do the rest well, and this will save you a gasket replacment or two, too.

Very true. But where is the fun in bragging to your guests that you got her up to 400*?!?!
