New Egger's First Cook

My son finally got his Egg. Life's been crazy for him and he hasn't been able to unpack and put Egg together. On the spur of the moment he called and asked if I could help him set it up. He and I assembled his new Large Monday evening on his back porch and dropped it the nest. No plans to cook until he saw it assembled and he couldn't stand it - had to cook something. He only had enough lump to fill the chimney. So, he set up for his first cook.

using his "old Weber" stuff he loaded the lump and lit off the virgin burn

While the lump got hot - he search for something to cook

Turkey sausage and yellow peppers!!

The best moment of the night - the smile that only an Egger has has the food sizzles when you put it on the grill!!!

Wow the kid can eat right. It took me 60 lbs overweight and 62 years old before I would eat like that :(
Welcome to the land of BGE......Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd. -
He a great son... His mama has kept us all on healthy food... now we do burn the real meat some of the time- burgers, pulled pork, steaks... but for most part over the years they are balanced with fish, chicken, low-fat loins, veggies, and such....
I'd be willing to best his Egg will experience chicken skin drippings and ground beef "smoke out" before the end of week!!!!Kent Madison MS -
Mightyfine - Lots of outstanding eats and great gatherings with friends and family around the Egg in his future.
Wish I would have discovered Eggs at that age. -
Looks like a nice induction to the egg!
I agree with Frank, sure wish I had known about the egg at that age. -
Your so right, he's seen it done growing up... so he'll get it honestKent Madison MS

my "first" grill was a grocery store portable mini-grill that sat flat on the ground...
How times have changed!! :laugh:Kent Madison MS -
Great cook and way to get him started. Now he'll do most of the real cooking.
-
If we were keeping score - he'd be 23 years in the hole--
It will be good to reverse the roles every once in a while

Way to go Kent. First cook never to be forgotten. Is he geared up for posting on the forum? I have some suggestions for the new egghead's forum name. Tim

Encourage your son to attend a BGE fest -- It's a great learning experience!!

My large egg is only my second grill. After having one of those cheap charcoals from walmart I decided to do the ultimate upgrade. My wife loves me!

I think I just dropped a tear. Can't wait for moments like that with my 8 year old.

Or my 21 year old. He and his fiance just moved in together in Montana, 2400 miles from home in Pa. Gave him my Weber Silver Genesis and he already told me he wants a BGE. I told him to go t the EggFest in Missoula. Maybe I'll surprise him for xmas. Hope to be able to get there to have the experience with him as well. Glad you were able to enjoy it with yours.

Eggers Prayer-
Our egg, which art in sizes, hallowed be thy smoke, thy will be grilled, at home as it is at eggfest. Give us this clay our daily brisket and forgive us our rubs, as we forgive those who gas grill against us, and lead us not to flashback but deliver us from overnighters. For thine is the grill, the smoke, the egg. Let's eat!
