Just wondering if any contributers are sporting primos or GD's. Seems they all cook similarly. Our eggs just have more eggcesories :)

This is a Big Green Egg forum but there are a few Eggheads out there who also own other ceramic grills, gas grills, offset smokers and other types of smokers. The same holds true for Eggheads who often visit other BBQ forums. Everyone is welcome so long as they don't make a nusiance of themselves.

Here is a link to some cool grills (external link, use at own risk) http://www.neatorama.com/2006/06/08/top-10-coolest-bbq-grills/

Didn't even know there were other ceramic smokers until yesterday when I went in to pick up some Dizzy Pig spices (recommend from this site) and noticed an orange smoker with the same shape as the Egg! I didn't get the company name.

The owner of Dizzy Pig is a member here. Yes they are fantastic rubs.

So what was this thing called? Big Orange Orange?

I just looked at the Primo website. Looks like they might have a user friendly area for recipes.

I hate to say it, as I love my BGE, but had I known about Primo, I might have gone that way due to the fact that they are Made in USA. Thats big for me.

hope I won't be banned for that admission.

Hey, I agree with you on the Made in the the USA statement!

I was in Academy Sports + Outdoors (big sports store throughout Texas - not sure about everywhere else) last week and seen a Giant green ceramic cooker (bigger then the BGE Large) right by the front door. I went over and took a look - only $499 and it had to be as big if not bigger then BGE XL. I opened it up found the paperwork and it said "MADE IN CHINA" but no brand name or manufacture was listed anywhere. I thought, "made in China? it can't be good." But then I thought "what's the difference; China, Mexico, Morocco..."

Of course, the lack of a listed brand name scared me off.

I am an EggHead to the core and I too would be much prouder if what I speak of so highly were an American Made product.

I might be banned with you...
  • I use a Comet, the company went bust, imported chinese BGE clones, definetely not a made in the US. After 1.5 years of use all that broke was the grate the coals sit on and I burnt the felt.
I dont think that the quality depends on the country its made in. The ceramic is pretty standard, any company anywhere in the world that does industrial ceramic parts can make em.
Does anyone know, do Primo, BGE, Dome actually produce their own ceramic parts, or do they buy it from elsewhere. I am pretty sure all the accesories are sourced elsewhere as well. Apple is after all just an engineering and marketing company, outsourcing production, and pretty much everything else.
