So I have cooked about 5 butts on my egg. I cooked two small ones at once, but this week I am planning on cooking two butts at about 25 pounds total. Because there are two of them should I plan on the time it would cook two of them? When I did the two small once I figured they would both cook in the time it would take to cook one of them, but that did not seem to be the case. Am I looking at about a 24 hour cook here?

  • So to add to what I think your saying (and what I assumed) is that it is 1.5-2hrs per lb per butt. So instead of taking the full 25 lbs and multiplying it by 1.5 I would take the biggest one and do the cook time based on that (obviously I know the cook time is based on the temperature, but i want to get a ballpark number).

1.5-2 hrs for the largest one. The other should be done sooner. Ya never know though. Assuming 250° dome.

Two butts, 25 lbs?!!! Them's some BIG butts!!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Cook time would be based on roughly 2 hours per pound at 250 dome the smaller will be done sooner than the larger with some variance to hot spots of the egg...25# for 2 butts is unheard of...are you sure you dont have 2 packages which is 4 butts..either that or you have 2 picnic shoulders..
