Firebricks in New Orleans?
NOLA Q
Posts: 12
Does anyone in the New Orleans area know where to get firebricks? I am building a table and want them to place my egg on. I've called around to a couple of fireplace stores but no luck yet. Thanks.

Brick & Block on St. George Ave in old Jefferson (just downriver from Clearview, off of Jeff Hwy); see website at http://brickandblockproductsllc.com/
Or Masonry Products on N Alexander: http://www.masonryproducts.com/mp_home.html
Either one should be able to help you, though I don't know if they'll sell such a small amount. I have a stash of used firebricks if you really can't find 'em anywhere else (I'm saving up for an outdoor hearth oven). -
Have either of you checked with your big Orange Home resource store? They sell them there, at least in Florida.

I've checked. Home Depot and Lowes both don't carry them around here.

If you have Ace Hardware, you should be able to order Rutland fire bricks off their website for delivery to your local store. They're expensive, but last resort....The Naked Whiz

Ace Hardware and Menards carries them in my area.

If you cant find any in NO drive up to Baton Rouge, we have them at Goodwood Hardware.

Thanks to all of you. I found an Ace Hardware that was able to order the Rutland firebricks for me and will have them delivered to the store in a few days.

Try Masonry Products on N Alexander. They will sell any quantity. I've gotten both splits and full bricks from them.

I'd also recommend the Rutland fire bricks from Ace. You can get a box of six, half-height bricks shipped to the store for $20. Most stores don't keep 'em in stock but you can have them shipped for free. The half-height size is perfect for all sorts of grilling/smoking uses.
