Who Likes Lamb - Lamb Burgers!!!

Tonight is was Lamb Burgers, an Emeril Lagasse recipe from his grill book. Of course, I made some changes, but I will give you the recipes he wrote, straight up.
This is what it looked like when I went out to light the mini - YUCK! Welcome to Florida!

Here are the lamb burgers, I used 1 lb. ground lamb and adjusted everything to that:
2 1/4 lbs. ground lamb (I used organic lamb)
1/2 cup minced shallots
3 Tbsp. chopped fresh mint
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Mix all and allow to sit 2 hours to blend flavors.
They smelled great after mixing!! It was very fresh and appetizing smelling (I smell everything, no I am not weird!).

I grilled some red onions first, coated lightly in olive oil:

Then the lamb burgers went on at 450 dome, here is the flip:

I cooked them to 160 internal - I don't want the food police knocking at my door tonight!!
The weather cleared while the burgers were resting.
Much better, now:

Finished burger served with Emeril's Feta Spread
I cut this in half for 1 lb. of lamb.
4 oz. crumbled feta cheese
4 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup greek-style yogurt
2 Tbsp. minced grren onion tops
1 Tbsp chopped fresh mint
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. fresh minced garlic
1 tsp. olive oil
1 tsp. finely grated lemon zest
1/2 tsp salt to taste
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Combine all and let sit at least 1 hour to let flavors marry.
I had to cut into one, it looks pink, but it was perfect... note the mint in there!

The burger - and it was OutStanding!

I will make this again, it was delicious!

Ok Faith I've got the day planned out. Your house first for burgers then over to Al's for the ribs and we can finish it up with Jay and Kathy and the pot pies :woohoo: I love it when a plan comes together.

Morning Faith:
Those look delish!
Weather over here was good until I was ready to put the butts on at about 7:30 so I had to wait for about an hour before I could go outside again. Nice now though!Have a GREAT day!

Elzbth,
Here is the actual sunset tonight, facing west, which is the most North that the sun sets all year long (I hope that makes sense).

Faith, your Greek lamb burgers look delicious!

It's been so long since I've eaten a lamb burger. I'll put this on my list. I like the Greek elements.
I agree with Hoss, send the rain! -
Very nice!
We also make lamb burgers and they are great. Yours looks terrific. :cheer: -
Looks wonderful Faith. I'm not fond of Emeril but ground lamb is great! I use to wrap lamb patties in a strip of bacon (around edge wise) and secure with a tooth pick. I would make them thick enough so they cooked in about the same time it took for the bacon to cook, 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" maybe. This was before the egg so I would broil them on medium. (To broil on medium, set the oven rack down to the middle position in the oven). If you broil them on hi you can set off smoke detectors and set the bacon on fire. Hahahaha, I speak from experience. I can't remember how long to broil, its been a long time. I used to cook them medium, still pink and juicy inside. Simple and yummy.
You out cook Emeril every day Faith,
Blair

what a great cook !
I love lamb. -
Looka great Faith. We never had lamb burgers.
-
That looks wonderful! I copied that recipe for a future cook!
-
Those look great Faith and I love the sauce.
-
Wow! The spice combos sound fantastic (really Mediterranean)... I'll need to try this one - Awesome pics too!
-
I thought the sunset occurred in the south. Whats up with it setting in the west in you neighborhood?
-
The first sunset picture is facing southwest, the other sunset pic is facing northwest. In the winter, the sun moves south and sets more directly west. (Make sense?)

No, not at all. Where I live it just sets in the west. I just make minor adjustments to my chair when I face west.
Check your e mail. -
faith, those look great. ..i've done a similar lamb burger recipe. . . from jaque pepin. ... one thing i got from him is to take a small chunk of feta and put it right into the center of the burger. ..when you bite into the finished burger, you get this wonderful bite of oozing warm feta cheese with it. .. .also, rather than buns, try tucking the burgers into a pita pocket with your sauce ...yummy!!
-
Great! Now I want one of those and Tims pizza as well as some of the steaks posted last night. So much for getting stuff done around the house.
-
Max, the feta on the inside would be great! Wish I would have thought of that. I will try it next time.
The sauce was awesome, I am going to be addicted to it.
