Tri Tip Marinade

I wasn't sure if this recipe was posted before, but it is the best tri-tip marinade I've ever had. I usually make tri-tip in one of three ways that I'm comfortable with (guests always like them). This new one takes the cake and here it goes:
Ingredients
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup soybean oil
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup black pepper
1/2 cup garlic salt (recommended: Lawry's)
1/2 cup chopped garlic
1/2 cup chopped dried onions (I fond this at an Asian grocery store)
2 (4-pound) tri-tips, trimmed
Directions
To make the marinade, mix all of the ingredients except for the beef in a large mixing bowl. Place the trimmed tri-tips in a plastic container and pour the marinade over. Let stand in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours. Grill at med. temp until med rare. Serve over white steamed rice with veggies.
The regulars that eat my tri-tips commented that these are the best ones I've made so far. Have at it!

Deane,
I've made that head to head against the one Morro Bay rich has done and I found although excellent, I preferred the dry rubbed one. That may just be me, I find marinated steak to be a little 'steamy'. Different smokes for different folks as they say.
Also, red oak is key!

IMO if you marinate a tri-tip you might as well just buy a brisket as it won't taste like tri-tip anymore.
