Well Molly forwarned me my dear friend bill was placing bets on the forum about what I would put in my Philly tonight so to mess up his plans I did a completly proper Philly cheese stake. The raws:

Mother in law came to visit last few days. Went by the butcher and grabbed a small ribeye for me, a large bone in one for Doreen and a thin T bone for Mother in law. Waste of good meat on her as she wants her's to be able to hold on one end and stand straight out with no bend. If there is a speck of pink she want eat it. Like I said, a waste of good meat! :pinch:

Got and inch of rain and the ducks were enjoying it!

Some fire roasted peppers and onions for the Philly:

And supper is almost ready.

As you can see, A proper Philly. Just stake, peppers, onions, pervalon cheese and SHRIMP! ;)

Also did a couple butts earler. One for us and one for Mother in law to take home.

  • Aren't you such a nice son-in-law! Where's the picture of the well done meat? We don't get to see much of that around here!

I happen to like SHRIMP on the philly! Nice going and don't listen to all those other opinionated people!

Me to Molly! So looking forward to this trip. Just a little short trip to N.O and Fort Walton last year and really need to eat up some tarmac for a while. ;)

Oh yea Frank, every thing had a little 'simmon on it. ;) Seriously Had my butcher cut her sirloin XL thin and told him really hated to waste his meat on her. Normally I stop by Brookshires and grab a cheap chunk of meat for her. Seriously I would spend 30 bucks on a prime ribeye for her but why if your going to cook it to the consistency of cardboard?! :pinch:

Not to worry Faith. Those Yankies can't help it if they got a cheese stake all wrong!

    Hey J.
Been lookin at your "cooked some'en" posts for a few years now, and I have noticed your food looks a lot better than it did years ago. Have you noticed an improvement in the way stuff is tasting as well? Looks like you are getting a lot more color on the meat, and your food looks better than ever.

Just for fun, you should pull up some of your old pix and compare them to these.

    Nice work mang!

Thanks Hoss. The trick to a good one to me is nice and greasy vegs with plenty of salt.

WOW Thanks Chris!! I appreciate the complement! I think the most improvement in my cooks is getting the temps down. A stake is still one of the hardest things for me to cook to this day. These tonight were as close to being right for everyone I have done. Rare for me, med. rare for wife and burned for Mother in law!! Sometimes I wonder if my food is actually better or my pics are. That was one of the things I was worried about at OK Fest this year when I had to deliever in person. A camra can hide a lot of screw ups!!

I think it's the other way around. Your camera accents the screwups! It takes a good picture to make food look appetizing. Pictures can't show flavor, but they show how ya cooked!

Beers...and a shot for the parrot.

Looks good! I guess you'd call that a Surf & Turf Philly.

  • Wow little brother, you did another amazing cook. That Philly looks fantastic!! Love the shrimp idea. I'm sure Doreens mom loved it and that was so sweet to get her a "special" steak. I never did understand people that eat well done meat, but I guess to each his own.
The steaks on the grill picture looks really festive. Kind of like fireworks going off in your egg :)
Hannibal needs to quit placing bets on JLockhart, how can he possibly think he's going to win with you involved. LOL!!
Glad to hear Little Bit is getting better.
Don't want yo to think I forgot about you but I'm way behind on my email so I may be giving you a call. Not sure what your schedule is right now.

Interesting sandwich Dean, I see Jake is adding a little extra salad dressing. -RP
  • J that is one great looking meal!! but sorry, that ain't no proper philly cheese steak!! .. .a proper philly cheese steak would have been to thin slice that ribeye first, grill it up on flat steel, maybe add some grilled onions, and then simply put either white american cheese or cheese wiz on it....no self respecting philly-ite would ever put green peppers, or chilis or especially shrimp on philly cheese steak ..LOL ..

but again, it sure does look like a good steak sub!!!

Sis you can call my cell anytime. I'm doing graveyards next two nights then off this weekend. Home anytime as well for that matter as we keep the phone on other end of house. Was worried a little about you. Never have to write a novel like you do but just let me know your ok. You stress me!!!
  • LOL. ..i'm not even a real philly native . . .heaven forbid, i hate everything philly with the exception of a true philly cheese steak "MAKE MINE WIT WIZ!!" .

so you haven't offended me!! . .now, chuck on the other hand, if he sees this will weigh in and really set you straight ...but pat and/or geno's on the south side would beat you to a pulp for calling that a philly cheese steak!!

like i said though, that is a great looking steak sub, and i'd certainly enjoy eating it!!
