I buy some from my Egg dealer, some from hardware stores, and I harvest as much as I can from fallen trees, which I find in the free section of Craigslist. I've gotten more apple, oak, and cherry than I'll ever use this way.

You can get chunks and chips at most grocery stores. Also fireplace shops usually carry chunks.

If you live in or near Iowa I have lots of apple and Cherry smoking wood that I would be glad to give to you free just for picking it up at my place. Bucky Buckshot

Thanks everyone, I live in Massachusetts and was just wondering where folks get their smoking wood

Where in Mass are you? I'm in MA as well. BBQ Barn in Arlington has a good selection of chunks, though a bit pricy I think. I can usually get bags of hickory cheap at Home Depot.
