My egg finally arrived in Thailand, from Cincinnatti to Singapore by air and then a final move to Thailand by sea. All this with the help from my uncle who built a fantastic crate to go around the shipping box.

It arrived Friday and after most of my furniture was unpacked we finally fired up the Egg on Sunday evening. Six lamb chops came out a little over done but were still quite tender. I had a little problem keeping the temp up but after some research on the forum I tend to think my lump is a little small and may not be letting enough air through, can probably be fixed with a little stirring.

Anyway this is a great forum and I have used it many times for research especially when buying the Egg.

Thanks to All!

Happy your BABY arrived safely. Was there in Bangkok in the late '60's and enjoyed the street food. How does their charcoal compare to that which is available in USA?

can't wait to hear about some examples of Thai cuisine cooked on the egg. I hope you can post some photos.

Is your regular kitchen outdoors or is it inside your home? I visit the Philippines regularly and many people in the country have their kitchens in a covered area (a roof) at the edge of their homes so that if they had an egg, it could be placed right in the kitchen.

    Congratulations.

That is an amazing feat of the BGE even when the food goes a little longer that you would like it is still fantastic! Sounds like a big move glad everything made it to your new home.

Welcome and glad your egg made it there safe. I assume you can get lump charcoal there. How do you like the lump? Like everyone else I will be happy to see pic's of your cooks as well as the sites to see. Tim
  • Thanks for all the replies. To answer some of the questions here....

I live about 90 miles south of Bangkok near Pattaya/Jomtien. We built a house here a couple of years ago and now that I am about to retire I should get to use the Egg a lot and will definitely post pics of Thai cuisine (along with the recipes).

The lump is the only charcoal here that is inexpensive, Kingsford is about USD 20.00 per bag!!!. The lump I have is a little small (limited airflow through the lump???) and I was thinking this caused my temp to stay around 350 F. and I was actually looking for 450-500 for the lamb chops. I was quite happy for the first try.

I do have a "normal" indoor kitchen but will be building an outdoor kitchen to house the Egg and sorry all....but my Fire Magic Gas Grill. I had a one-time shipment to Thailand and I went with both....I was really worried the Egg wouldn't make it in one piece. I also went with the medium so having the gas grill gives me plenty of cooking space. It has an infared burner to sear steaks. Enough about the gas grill since I realize that is taboo on this forum.

For all of you that are trying to figure out the time difference....it is now Monday morning at 0845, 13 hours ahead of the US east coast.

    Thanks again to all!
