Handle depth measurements

Hey all,

Wondering if someone that has an egg and tape measure handy could do a quick measurement for me. I am 2 hours away from my egg and attempting to make a custom handle for the lid of a large egg. I measured the width which is 4" but forgot to measure the depth. The new handle is going to me a miniature log and I don't want the diameter to be too deep that I can't get my hand behind it to lift the lid up. Can someone tell me the measurment from the back side of the metal part of the handle to the front side of the lid? It would be greatly appreciated.

I see Clay fixed you up with the depth. You might also want to know [if you don't already] the the band material is 3/4" wide and about 3/32" thick.
I just made a new handle for my large last week using a piece of 1 1/4" oak dowel. I put a 3/4" straight bit in my router table and cut a groove so the handle would fit flush, ran a couple of screws through the backside.
Look at my post from yesterday morning "Last nights grilled yellowfin." It is simple but functional.
