Our very own RRP was kind enough to send me a jar of La Bomba, to entice me to bring a few cases down with me (I live near the Chicago distributor) to Peoria for the fest in a couple weeks. Last night, I cracked open the jar to try it out on dinner...and yes, Ron, I did taste it on its own first...just some bomba and a spoon. It IS fantastic...smoky, spicy, umami. Yum.
For dinner, I marinated some shrimp in the bomba.

Sliced up a little locally made kielbasa (have I said before how much I love living in Chicago?)

Grilled the sausage

then the shrimp

and then tossed it all in some pasta shells in aglio e olio (garlic oil).

I was so excited to eat, that I forgot the parsley garnish. Served with roasted brussels sprouts and some fantastically sweet pineapple. Good meal. Good bomba. If you haven't tried la bomba as a shrimp marinade, I recommend it.
Thanks, RRP!

How do you get La Bomba?

Great idea, Ben. That looks really good. :woohoo:

Ben,
Bombanaise is great burger topper too.
That stuff goes on soo many things, almost limitless.
Looks real nice and I'll try it as a marinade. -
The brand favored by the fanatics here on the forum (Allessia) appears to only be available in the US from one distributor, located in the far west suburbs of chicago, and must be bought by the case, picked up from the warehouse, and paid for in cash. I'll be taking a few cases down to the Peoria eggfest in a few weeks, and I'm guessing we could arrange something similar for the Oswego eggfest in September. Live anywhere near Illinos? Come join us.

You know, Adam, all my life I've been a mayo hater. But I've never made it myself. I've been meaning to try making a small (one-egg) batch, and seeing if that changes my mind. When I do, I'll have to try setting some aside to mix with bomba. Sounds like a good veggie dip...actually, it sounds like it would be awesome with the eggplant fries from the new BGE cookbook.
I think I've seen one of Little Steven's stuffed burgers with la bomba in it. That's high on my list to try. -
I'm in Ohio, but could be a nice road trip
-
LOL - glad you got hooked already on that Italian crack! Giving you that jar worked - it was like priming a pump to get the water flowing, but in this case it will be LaBomba flowing down here to Peoria!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Ben, please let me know if you end up with a "spare" bottle of Bomba after you buy your cases! I would be very interested in purchasing a bottle to try.

looks very good! Gotta get me some.

That looks delicious Ben. As know...My name is Anne and I am a Bomba addict.

I will have to give it a try on shrimp, haven't done that one.
Thanks for the idea.
Great looking meal!!! -
I'm am in the minority, I don't like the stuff. :(
