What is the most recommended place to store my bag or charcoal? Indoors like in a garage, under the table I have for the egg, or in a storage bench that is outside but is pretty weather tight I think?

    Whacky,

How about a big Rubbermaid bin that will hold a couple bags? Then you won't have to worry about moisture and you can have a good look at what you've got.
  • I buy charcoal by the pallet, and keep the bags in my barn. Once I open a bag, I store it next to my Eggs in my (now unused) gas grill, turning the top of the bag down to force air out and keep humid air out. This works pretty well for me. If you wanted to be certain to keep it dry, you could get a plastic container that would fit in your storage bench, and put the bag of charcoal in there.

    Hey Whacky

Welcome to the forum. I have very limited storage space and find a clean, tight, plastic trash barrel keeps my charcoal dry even in the worst weather. I have a barrel made by Rubber Maid that has a tight lid that holds at least 3 10# bags and room left over for smoke wood. It lives outdoors by the BGE where it is always handy. I don't have a garage or I would probably store my barrel there.

I have recently started using the two storage tote method. I only buy a bag or two at a time (20 lbs)so I don't need to store a ton. I got the idea from someone on the forum (Thanks to whomever it was). I put all the big chunks in one tote, and the small to medium in the other one. I bought my totes at Wal*Mart for $4 each I think (with lids). Now I don't have to dig and look for big chunks, as its already done. I keep the totes in the garage next to the Egg table. No problems for me.

These plastic containers are about $10 each at Lowes. I keep them outside near the eggs and the rest of the charcoal in the garage or a mini warehouse.

  • the season is here and you might want to go to Lowe's or home depot and look to see if they have any of the Kingsford storage containers.

Blue bottom black top holds most of a 22lb bag and water tight!

I use the same ones and they work very well. They stay outside on my deck in rain and snow and the charcoal is always dry.

I don't think I could use anything that said "Kingsford" on it :silly:
