Well guys I hit the wall the other day to where I couldn't wait around any longer for my XL BGE to try out some of the recipes I've read about on here. So I dragged my Weber little smokey portable grill out and my half broke propane grill (only one burner works and its stuck on medium flame).

So the cook went as follows:
I got a nice thick ribeye from whole foods. I air dried the steak in the fridge for 4 hours uncovered, 30 minutes before the cook I put lemon juice and zest all over it. Dried it off for the cook and gave it a nice pepper and salt crust. Set up the weber little smokey with as much charcoal as possible, keeping the charcoal line 1 inch from the grill. Got the coals nice and hot past the smoke point and then seared the steaks for 2 minutes on each side, then onto the propane grill for 4 minutes each side to finish. Let the steak rest for 10 minutes and served. Turned out a beautiful medium, perfection.

Proof that with a good cut of meat and a sound methodology you can still do great things with fire.

Still a couple of weeks out from delivery of my XL BGE, its like waiting for a girl that you are crazy about to return your phone call. When will she call!! :)

Here's a pic of my setup, this was from another BBQ, doing Bulgogi on the little Smokey.

I had no idea one would have to wait for an Egg... I just picked mine up already assembled, took it home and got right to business. I do remember waiting for my Stoker though. It wasn't too long of a wait, but the time just crawled by.......Hope you get it soon!!!

Ok, we can forgive the use of the kettle. Hopefully you used lump charcoal. But the gasser? Come one Man!!! :P

I would use a cast iron skillet on the stove before I used a gasser.

I've heard the expression "It's the cook, not the cooker" many times. Once you get your egg, you'll see that it isn't entirely true.

Although the info you can sponge off this forum will most likely improve your skills to the point of being a food snob, like most of the rest of us.

    Adam,
Not to change topic but are you planning another winter cabin event in the future?

Very true, I must say that since I bouht my house in December and have had my own private outdoor space my grilling skills have improved. Practice makes perfect and trying out various recipes and tweeking them over time produces some nice cooks. Likewise, all the recipes I've found on here are pretty amazing as well.

It will be nice to get my BGE in and start using soem nice equipment. Its been a while, almost 6 years since I've had a good solid charcoal grill.

Time to get in touch with my inner caveman.

    Absolutely!

Most likely the same place and around the same time. I'll have to ask around, cause I can't remember either.

No downside to laughing your A$$ off and having so much fun it literally hurt. :)

I do remember Steve begging me to be quiet for a bit so he could breath. :P
