Wine party food?

So, my wife has a wine party that she is throwing next weekend. It's more like a gathering of her co-workers that need an excuse to drink, not a hoidy toidy wine party. Usually I cook up something for these shindig's, like a dessert. But now that I have the Egg I'm thinking of cooking more food, as we will have a few more guests this time. A few friends have already requested ABT's, but other than that, what else will go with a loosely, casual, party.

Seeing Skyhopsing's Flat Bread post gave me an new idea, because up till this point my wife was thinking pizza on the Egg.

What say the peanut gallery? Should I stick with pizza, or do something a little different. I'm looking for foods that can be eaten by hand and not be super messy, like ribs or pulled pork (thats for me!!! ;) )

planked brie would be a good choice

maybe some varieties of shrimp or scallops

    lamb lollipops
  • some shrimp would be good for wine.... Scallops in bacon (not sure how many people so maybe to $$).

Sometimes I do wings without the hot sauce so they aren't messy. I like them marinated in juice of a couple limes, cumin powder, ancho chili powder, shot of tequila, garlic powder, onion powder, cilantro, ground pepper, kosher salt. This marinade is not too wet so your wings will get crispy.

Fidel is spot on with his suggestions.

IMO, ABT's aren't a great item to pair with wine. If you do, try to use a Grenache, a really peppery one.

Duh! I must have my head up my rear, I never even thought of shrimp. And the brie is a good suggestion, as my wife used to do brie wrapped in filo dough, served with a hot pepper jelly. Oh, and the ABT's are only for a few beer drinkers who are showing up (they saw pics of the last batch I made).

    Thanks for the great suggestions!
  • Stuffed Fritos from Frank in Houma. A crowd pleaser, easy to pick up with one hand while you have a drink in the other. Check the cookbook section.

Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

  • Italia's Toastes (Bruschetta)
    Smoked cheese.
    Shrimp, chicken, veggies on skewers.
    Stuffed Jalapenos.
    Stuffed mushrooms (button size).
Assorted flavors of sausage chunks, onion, pepper, mushrooms on skewers.
Seasoned pineapple chunks, grapes, cherry tomatoes on skewers
What the hell...Sliders with sautéed chilies and onion.
Mini meat balls seasoned with some WOW, browed in CI enough to firm up and then smoked (sorry, but again) on skewers.
Guess I'm on a skewer roll here, but what a great way to get "snacks" on and out quick ;) !
