New Spider and Adjustable Rig

Got the egg, platesetter etc. for Christmas and after reading the raves about the Adjustable Rig and Spider I received that last week as a birthday gift.
Searched on spider and read alot about it and had one question.
Several people talk about getting the egg temp up to sear. My thoughts about the spider were that you get a good fire going with the spider and grate close to the flames, the grate temperature would be close to the flame temperature and the dome temperature really shouldn't matter, correct?

i would say you are correct, but I would make sure that fire was "lava" as the whiz calls it.
