you've seen the foolishness, and that a non-contributing newbie has posted more than once posing as registered forum members.

are you going to do anything about that loophole?

    Loophole. What loophole?

And yes, I left my avatar and signature on purpose so you would know it is me.

I could have just as easily removed them.
  • Maybe I should try doing it this way instead?

How did I did that? Amazing party trick, eh?

    All,

We are working on the "loophole". It has always been with us, but with so much growth, I suppose it was inevitable that it would become a bigger problem over time.

The "handle" field's original intent was for the real name, which of course can be duplicated; So, we'll need to modify the system to require a unique "handle".

We have begun the required changes; however, it will take a bit of time to complete.

We are already rejecting at least some of the paths that permit "handle hijack"; however, for anyone who accidentally selects a duplicate, the current response is not very friendly (i.e. the submitted form data is lost). We are working on this now.

Also, some will notice, in the near future, a "2" or, "3", etc. appended to their forum handle. This is necessary to eliminate currently duplicates, and, to block duplicate handles at the database so there will be no "loopholes".

Thanks for trying to fix this problem. I would like to rejoin the forum, but this Tweev has my user handle and uses it at will. I stated that I would not post again, so that any posts from Village Idiot would be his.

I guarantee you that Tweev will cause nothing but trouble for this forum, and will probably destroy it.

I would at least appreciate it if you would delete the duplicate account that he made. I see that all of my posts are now under his newly created account too.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the tips, but I KNOW when something is posting under my name and I didn't do it. It's the other people that probably don't know.

And, unless you are the dredges of humanity, you should feel bad about stealing my identity, because I did NOT post the Tweevie Ghost post. I did nothing to you at all !

You should man up and create a thread, apologizing for your past behavior and asking to start over again.

    But, you won't.

IF I recall, the "Tweevie Ghost" handle was in black print, which indicates an anonymous post, or a member who logs out and posts as a Guest. The green handle names are registered members and that was not the case here.

When I read it, I assumed it was NOT Tweev's post, but someone else making an anonymous comment.

For whatever that is worth!

The irony of your statement is that 'newbies' have always been welcome with open arms. We love to congratulate you on your successes, sympathize with you on your disasters, offer advice, and appreciate advice given. It doesn't matter if you have 1 post or 10,000.

You are more than free to express your opinion. The problem is when you are a pompous jerk about your opinion.
Now if you ask me creating duplicate accounts and exploiting loopholes is not the right way to build credibility.

    Alex,

Were you talking to me? I hope not. I have not done any of the things you mentioned. I do hope you are talking about a previous poster. That seems to fit.

Tweev, all I'm saying is think about how what your about to say is going to sound to the people you're saying it to before you say it, alright?
