Is anybody else as tired of seeing cake related shows on FN? Every time I turn it on anymore its Ace of Cakes or Challenge with cakes, enough is enough. -RP

Very sick of cake shows. Pretty much only tune in for "D,D,&D" Kind of a shame the direction they have gone.

As a creature of habit I thought maybe I was seeing so many cake shows because it was the time slot I watch - but I agree! I like programs where I can learn something as well as be entertained. I also hope to take away a new dish idea. I especially detest those Xtreme contests with the motorized, smoke belching cakes that leave me cold...let alone some of the tatooed human species that create them!

    What is your fest schedule?

We got sick of TV period. Ditched cable altogether due in large part to the horrible service we got from Time Warner. Picked up a good digital antenna so it's mostly PBS where they have these odd shows where people actually cook!

Best $600/year decision we've made in a while. We can always rent a DVD or pull something up on the PS3 if we really want to see something.

FN used to be my default channel, but all the cakes have driven me away. It's primetime cakes every night of the week. Newsflash....Bronwyn Weber wins!

    Here, here!

    Bring on the pies!!!!

Kidding. I use the DVR to catch Triple D and Chopped. Other than that I don't care for anything on the channel.

Cake bad meat good. I miss all the late night showings of good eats....only one or two episodes is cramping my style.

I'm with you on this. Six months ago that was one of the few channels (except ESPN, of course) I even checked. Now, only Diners Drive-ins Dives, and that dude is becoming a bit overexposed.

    Sick of the cake shows.

Any network that will give Guy Fieri or Rachael Ray airtime won't get much of my time. Absolutely refuse to watch either one. To give you an idea how little I watch FN, I have never seen a cake show.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

LOL - but seriously...what is it that you and others hate about Rachael Ray? I just don't get it! If I can learn to tolerate that arrogant ass Bobby Flay, then what's the problem with bubbly Rachael Ray?

I agree with RRP, I think it's because of the time slot that I usually tune in at. I noticed that most of the shows I DVR are in the morning and early afternoon, but when I just tune in on a whim (at night).....more cake, so to the next channel I go. It's funny, I didn't think I would ever miss Emeril, but seeing the direction the evening programming has gone, I have started watching his re-runs on FINE channel

Lordy, where to start? Hey, let's "grill" a steak and I'll make a salad. How very original. Or... Wait a sec while I go over to the cabinet that's 3 feet away and load up with 27 ingredients. I would love it if, just once, they would show her drop the entire load. But of course, that'll never be shown. And I'd never see it anyway.

Don't like her voice or her laugh, don't like her bubbly, especially don't like the fact that she is EVERYWHERE! Oh and then there's always "YUM-O", "How good does THAT look?", et al.

For me, she has NO redeeming value. Hell, she's not even pretty! Every time I see her, I think of Jack Nicholson. And now....... you will too! hahaha

I have to agree. What's the point of watching someone bake a cake and then have to MOVE it. I don't waste my time with FOOD Challenges. I do enjoy watching some of the shows on Saturday and Sunday Morning but for the most part I don't watch as much as I used to. Gotta agree, a little much Guy lately. I didn't enjoy one show they had years ago, GRILLIN' AND CHILLIN.

Thanks for your honest reply. At least I know where you are coming from, but I still like her personality and sunny disposition - guess I gravitate toward that type of person and I even find her to be a bit of a fox! For that matter the times I've seen Giada's Mother I find her more attractive and sexy than her daughter!

I agree comletely. It's due to the stupid cake show that I never even bother to tune in to the FN. The cake show is on 24/7 it seems. I even like to make pastry, but that show holds no interest for me. I agree with others that PBS has the good cooking shows.

i havent watched it too much in the last couple years, just got burned out from it and the newer shows dont offer much. did watch secrets of a restaurant chef with the braised lamb shanks a few weeks back and learned a few things and did up the recipe with oxtails, short ribs and lamb ribs, was really good but Anne Burrell on a 65 inch screen scares me

  • I agree.. More scary is the lower half of her bod! FNC must be hurting for new talent as there are far too many re-runs lately (I've been an avid fan for quite a while but my enthusiams is waning rapidly). The Neelys are just too much to stomach and of late, Pat utters "Y'all" more often than Paula! It seems as though there's always someone behind the scene who frowns if the "chef" ebbs the flow of inane gibberish. And then there's the 'mindless' (give-me-a-break!) music(?) to accompany those who can't chatter non-stop! I'm of the opinion that Bob Tushman, who's mouth can twist two ways at the same time, doesn't have a brain capable of equal flexibility. Time will tell...

Sometimes a little TOO honest?

I don't think I had ever seen Giada's mother, but of course, I had to look her up. :) You may be right.

    As for Ms Ray? Enjoy.

  • Now that's funny and I don't care who you are!
  • So why don't we all send these thoughts to Alton over at the FN. He is the new king now since Emeril left, right?
