Timing strategy on Butts

I have 2 - 8lb Boston Butts on the BGE for 8 hrs (it's now 6:20pm). My egg is maintaining 220 and the current internal temperature is 150. I am concerned that they will finish in the middle of the night. Is there any strategy of drastically cutting back the heat and increasing in the morning. How do I keep the Cooked butts for 7 -8 hours once there cooked. My family comes over at 2pm. I am figuring it might take 20 hrs total time to cook but I'm not sure. Any advice?

Your temp is too low. A dome temp of 220 only gives you around 195 at the grid. It's hard to get meat up to 200 degrees if it's only 195 where it sits. You may be better off wrapping them in foil and kicking it up to 350 degrees to speed up the cook. Otherwise you can pull them when their done in the middle of the night, wrap in foil and put in a cooler. Go back to bed and pull them in the morning.

General rule is 1 1/2-2 hrs a pound for the largest piece not combined weight. Like CBBQ said get it up to 250 dome and they will be done when their done. My egg seems to be the only one that consistently goes 19-20 hours for 8 pound butts

Thanks Pat. I am considering either pulling the butts and finishing off in the morning in the oven or since I have such a low temperature I might let them run and see how long they will go. Maybe I can get another 8 hrs

Thanks for the help. Given the low temp. I wonder how if I could get another 8 hr at this temp
