stripsteak wrote:. so thinning the rolls will help. besides, statistically the most obese and unhealthy kids and families are in states other than mine (ahem), so as long as i don't have to deal with it why should i care? quite literally, let them eat cake. maybe there's no such thing as evolution, but if a certain portion of a species eats itself to death before it can procreate, i think eventually we'll all be healthier in the long run.
"also sprach zarathustra."
either that, or maybe just "hyperbole must be met with hyperbole"
n.b. there is a difference between sarcasm and irony. sarcasm is the angry step-brother to irony. i haven't yet figured out which of these this is intended to fall under.
Honestly didn't want to go there, but you've summarized my feelings exactly. I just don't want to be footing their enormous health care bills as they eat their way to an early grave. -
you acknowledge that it's either sarcasm or irony, and then chastise me for having the opinion?
those two things cannot both be correct. it can't be (either) irony or sarcasm AND be my opinion. -
HA HA!
My state is fatter than your state.
(Why does it seem that every third thread here has turned to a pissing match since Tweev showed up? Not that he's involved in all of them, but certainly seems to be a common catalyst) -
i already know.
what in the world makes you think i owe you an answer?
as a hint, if i use the word hyperbole twice, there's probably a clue in there somewhere. -
I figured it was blatantly obvious....not really hidden in there that you were tongue in cheek.
Some people set themselves up on such a high pedestal they forget how to connect on an intellectual level with us common folk. -
Ya don't say? Never heard that one before.
I just find it odd that in my several years I have seen this forum devolve like this fewer than five times. Every time it happens it is because a new person joins (or a long-time lurker finally chimes in) and is instantly confrontational, fanning the flames and just intentionally stirring the pot.
Eventually they leave or take it down a notch and things get back to normal. -
good post. an uphill battle, no doubt about it.

Thank you, Ben - that was worth the 22 minutes it took to watch! Scary though - VERY scary!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Ah, but as soon as we start saying that "everyone" is paying for what the kids eat, then we need to start looking at how training kids into poor diets will cause "everyone" to pay in the future, as insurance premiums climb due to the increasing rate of obesity.
I'm not sure why that would be. Why can't an insurance company screen for obesity and charge more (assuming there are added actuarial costs associated)? -
Except when it isn't. Jamie Oliver wasn't shy about lobbying Parliament in the UK to enforce his vision. He already seems to have the First Lady's ear. How long until he's testifying before a Congressional committee?
Don't be naive, even LC notes how this is becoming a political issue. She's right. -
Perhaps boiling Irish children for lunch would work.
(A nickle for anyone that "gets" that) -
the Irish. ugh. too sinewy. hard workers. need some canadians maybe. quite sed'ntry. though they seem to run small.

no easy solution i can see.
