smoky trumpets'n crumpets

Never knew exactly what a crumpet was  , figured it was some kind of cake or biscuit, so following some research I got a feel for the basics, made some modifications & gave it a go. It’s my understanding that these are typically served with clotted cream, jelly, butter & so forth with tea. Since I prefer a spot of beer over tea, I topped mine with smoky & seasoned diced trumpet mushrooms. Nice way to spend a 70 degree sunny Sunday afternoon in the hut:

Beli, it was a first for me too, always liked the word crumpet, never really knew what they were though, it is a very interesting texture & flavor, I liked it a lot, will be experimenting with some different arrangements for sure, really easy to make too. Hey, missed you last weekend, was hoping you'd be therehappy in the hut

Those look tasty, xept for the beer. Those mushrooms look vaguely familiar.

Steve, as I told Beli, I've just always been amused by the word, but never saw one; primarily an English staple, and for good reason, kind of tastes like a thick crepe, kind of a spongy texture, but great flavor, especially leaning in the savory direction as opposed to sweet; the pancake version was great, rolled it up & ate it like an empty crepe, but it was so flavorful it didn't need anything elsehappy in the hut

well Faith, I guess you could wash a few of these down with a nice bottle of white wine too, in fact, that sounds pretty damn good :cheer:
so when is the next throwdown, word on the street is that Pat is feeling pretty strong after being in charge of opening & closing the dome on the winning team last week?happy in the hut

I've had store bought crumpets..kind of an "eggy" texture..but never would have thought of actually making them. They're great toasted.
-
good description, funny thing too, no eggs, only flour, baking powder, yeast, salt, milk & water; I will be trying them toasted, I have about 15 of them left over (I was dining alone this afternoon).happy in the hut
