Eastern NC style BBQ
MountainGriller
Posts: 300
Last night I put an 8 pound Boston butt on the LBGE. In the past I've used a rub - this time, for an experiment, I thought I would try it without the rub. I did make and use the vinegar based eastern style BBQ sauce.
I do like it better with the rub - although my wife likes it best without the rub - I guess I'll be eating it without the rub from now on.

Good Eats...congrats!

Looks great!
I think there's a pork butt in our Egg's future!

Looks good! I know of at least one Q joint in NC, Hursey's in Burlington, that doesn't use a rub. At least that's what they told me. Pretty good stuff - but mine's better!
I've never cooked one without a rub, but one of these days, I will. I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Looks great. Like many things in marriage, you can go 50/50 (with the rub). Nice lookin tomatoes also. Ours around here look like limes they are so bad. :(
-
Never been to Hursey's - we have lots of great places that serve Lexington style BBQ but as you said - "mine is better", even without the rub.

Thanks - couldn't resist buying these tomatoes inspite of the increase in price.

MountianGriller, your pulled pork looks great, as does that coleslaw! Beautiful BBQ plate!

Thank you very much - it's good and going fast

Growing up as a kid I don't remember a lot of bark to the pork at pig pickins. The vinegar sauce is the key and has plenty of flavor in my opinion.

My wife agrees with you

I really like trying them different ways. I'm torn between no rub and rub.
Yours looks great!!Molly

That Q looks great! No rub? Well, happy wife, happy life!
-
You got that right!

Doesn't matter how you fix butt on the egg, it alwasy tastes good. BTW I have rub resistant wife also. I've had to resort to a lot more EVOO and S&P cooks while sneaking in rubs once in a while.
