Food safety question: can I safely cook chicken wings in my chili, without having cooked-through the wings first? Might lightly brown them first, then toss them in. A buddy says he does this, but I trust him as far as I can throw him.

Sure! Just like cooking them in a pot of water or broth.

As long as you are going to let them cook in the chili it shouldn't be a problem. -RP

But why???
-
Cuz it sounds good!
-
As long as the chili is hot (over 160) the wings will get out of the danger zone (74-140) quickly

if the chili is simmering the chicken is cooking. simmering is around 185 plus, chicken is way past done at that temp, just make sure to give it a little time while simmering to finish cookingfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
