Fuzzy Egg (fungus among us!)

My husband decided to add a 2nd Egg because, y'know, one is just not enough.

The new Egg grows fuzzy fungus (mold) all over the inside in just the matter of a week. This has happened since day one. Since we don't use it as much as the "primary Egg," this is a big problem. The other Egg has NEVER grown fungus. They're sitting side by side, in the same weather conditions. Covering the smaller Egg between uses helps, but it still gets fuzzy inside. It's basically new, seals well, etc.

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone else recommend what to do to prevent fuzzy moldy stuff from taking over our Egg?

Thanks!

PS Removing it's not hard... jes' crank that puppy to 600 degrees.....

the poor thing is just doing anything for attention!!! just use it :) do a good burn on it to clean it well. and maybe after you use it open it up and let it run a little to get good and hot and burn off. I really didn't think there was anywhere in this country right now hot enough to grow anything let alone mold!! LOL

Thanks. We use the "Primary Egg" about 2 times/week (there are only 2 of us, so there's the whole leftover issue, o/w I think hubby'd be out there Egging most every night.) There's not as much of a problem if we alternate between the two ...It's just disconcerting to leave town for a week and come back to find ICK has taken over your Egg! I swear, in the summer, it took only 2 to 3 days to start getting moldy. I think the charcoal coating on the inside now is inhibiting the growth of it somewhat. But still... bleh. :S

BTW, we're in the Heart of Dixie; it's supposed to be in the mid 60s this weekend. So we'll definitely be Egging, and then dining by the warm glow of a chiminea. We did a standing rib roast last weekend... I just don't think I can top that any time soon!

Pork shoulder rubbed with JJ's, slow smoked over hickory with a little apple and cherry and a few rosemary twigs.

    Should be fabulous... [/http://www.flickr.com/photos/49871400@N08/4568606886/]
