Hello everyone, Just got into the egg head family with a large egg. love using it already couple prime ribs, steaks, pulled pork, But my question is I see several post saying eggheads own 2,3 and even 7 eggs, how much food can you cook???

Comments

  • I have 5, 2 more on the way. But I am cooking for hundreds. And I post a cook more than once every 5 months. :) When it was, my ex and I. 2 larges and a small. We entertained a lot.

I have had my XL for a little over 2 weeks now, and am already planning on adding a small or medium..

It isn't for the large amount of food i need to cook, rather for those nights when i am only cooking for myself, or 2 of us. Plus i would have it, for added space as well.

SO what your saying its like you can never have too many? so should I get a medium, small, looks like the mini just a mini, course I could strap it on the Harley and cook when ever and whenever.
  • Sure you can have to many. Especailly when you buy them, just to have them.
Talk about a sign of depression, buy to keep yourself happy.

  • Mike,

After 2 years of owning a large, I added an outdoor kitchen to my porch. I made a place for, and purchased a small to go with the large. The large is the most versatile of the two, but we love to fire up the small for a quick dinner - salmon, steak, etc. - for just the two of us.

Also have used the small to do a hi temp sear, then transfer to the large which is already at a lower temp for the finish. Sometimes we will do the main course on one egg and the sides at a different temp or setup on the other.

With the aftermarket accessories that Tom sells at www.ceramicgrillstore.com the large can have much more versatility.

    Enjoy !

Mike, you'll be fine for a while with a large. We had ours for about 5 mos. before we added another large and a small. :woohoo:
Seriously it's nice to have more than one egg if you're cooking multiple things at different temps. I keep one of my larges for baking and smoking cheese.
  • We've had a large for two years ... added a small at the one year mark ... and thinking about adding an XL this spring ... hard to entertain with just a large and a small without some very good planning! ... considering BBQ competitions as well ... I think the XL would come in very handy!

  • It's not hao many you need, it's how many you want!
    and can afford.
  • How many times did it ALMOST get a bath in the pond? :)
Ribbies or not in OKC, I might need to fine tune my skills. :woohoo:

  • I can get a lot of food on the LBGE with the CGS accessories. However, all of the food is being cooked at about the same temp. Therefore, it would be nice to have multiple BGEs to do different cooks. I will look at buying either a med or another large in the future. I will just have to figure out a place for it / them.
  • The more that I use 1 (lge) the more I see a use for another. It is however a little more difficult convincing the wife a the NEED for a 2nd egg

I hear ya - guess I'm a lucky guy in that my wife and I decided on our first BGE together - a large. The results and my enthusiam caused her to then surprise me with a small at my birthday, then a year later a medium and 2 years later...yup another surprise...the mini! Moral to the story - blow her away with excellent food and the fact YOU are doing the cooking and not HER and she'll be saving her "butter and egg money" in no time!

We have a large and a small at one residence, and a large and a mini at another. My wife wants us to get a Xl. :)

It's nice to have another place to cook something at a different temp. We were snowed in at Christmas and the neighborhood came for dinner. We had smoked turkey breast and prime rib on the large, then stuff two pork tenderloins and grilled them on the mini.

As far as the other half goes...there was someone on here who was buying eggs and hiding the smaller ones inside his large...and medium I think.
  • To many is just enough!
  • Heck, my wife TOLD me I was buying a second egg! I just stood there stunned. Has my wife been infected with the virulent strain of N1EGG1?
  • Only as many as one deems necessary…
    There, with-in lies the problem!

MB...We had our large for 12 years.... Then the 'fever' hit. We used to think of the egg as only a meat smoking device. Then we disovered the forum, and pizza, steaks, etc..... Now we have 3 large and a medium. We HAD a mini, but it wasn't enough to accomodate our needs. The mini was happily adopted, and lives VERY happily and is loved on a regular basis, in Georgia. My advice, learn to use what you have, then expand from there. ;)
